Lawn Fertilizers

A fertilizer is any type of material (other than lime) that is applied to soil, plants, trees, or shrubs to supply it with nutrients that are crucial to the growth and development of the plant. Having a customer tailored lawn program is essential to making your neighbors jealous and keeping your lawn looking the nicest on the block.

Lawns require a large amount of nutrients and water to maintain their health and vigor throughout the year. Because of this, it’s important to know what type of fertilizer to apply, how much to apply, and the timing of the applications. Lawns that are left neglected will quickly brown out and be susceptible to disease and weed infestation.

In the case of lawns, there are three main macronutrients used in fertilizer. They are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Fertilizer is best applied at times when the grass is growing and actively absorbing nutrients, usually the spring through fall. Experience has shown that by using a variety of nitrogen sources and applying lime as needed to raise soil pH to 6.0 to 7.0, we can produce excellent turf indefinitely and maintain healthy soil microbe populations.
